The social justice scene in Toronto is made up of a vibrant community of active stakeholders dedicated to fostering positive social change. But until now, social justice groups have only really communicated on their own media platforms.
Given all the coordinated efforts of activist groups and the various partnerships that exist, it stands to reason there would be similar coordination in the community’s communication efforts. Perhaps it’s a resource issue, since non-profit groups are often strapped for time and cash. But it doesn’t change the fact that the community needs a better way to communicate about its actions.
People want a hub–one place where every organization can announce events, inform the public of the social justice issues in its city, and foster a better connected, more engaged community.
Social Justice Toronto aims to be that hub to create a more coordinated effort in communicating about the many activist groups in Toronto and their actions. Why? Our ultimate goal is to create greater awareness about social justice issues and to encourage public engagement and activism to create a better Toronto, Canada and world.
